CION (CION Investment Corporation) Sets Lower First-Quarter Distributions

CION Investment Corporation announced on November 5, 2026 that its first-quarter 2027 base distributions will total $0.25 per share, with payments of $0.08 in January, $0.08 in February and $0.09 in March. It paid $0.30 per share in base distributions in the September quarter, when it earned $0.25 per share in net investment income under generally accepted accounting principles, or GAAP.

CION lends to midsize businesses and earns the interest left after borrowing costs and other expenses. Sales and repayments exceeded new funding by $173 million in the quarter, helping bring net debt down from 1.52 times equity to 1.30 times. A smaller portfolio also leaves fewer loans earning interest. Net asset value, the value of assets after liabilities, fell from $13.57 to $13.20 per share. The company attributed the decline chiefly to losses on restructured investments, lower investment valuations and distributions above net investment income.

We see the smaller payment as better aligned with what the portfolio recently earned. At the latest quarterly earnings level it leaves no cushion, though, so the next test is whether income after expenses can hold at or above $0.25 as CION operates with less debt and a smaller portfolio.
