MFIC (MidCap Financial Investment Corporation) Reports a Narrower Dividend Cushion

MidCap Financial Investment reported on November 5, 2026 that third-quarter net investment income fell to $0.34 per share from $0.40 in the second quarter. The board declared a $0.31 quarterly dividend payable December 22. That leaves three cents of room at the latest reported earnings level.

MidCap lends to midsize businesses, so repayments free up cash and can reduce borrowing, but they also take loans out of the portfolio that were earning interest. Net repayments totaled $189 million in the quarter. Net asset value, or assets after liabilities per share, fell from $13.37 to $12.86. MidCap attributed that decline to losses concentrated in a few investments, partly offset by income above the dividend.

We see enough income to support the December payment at the latest quarterly rate, with less room to absorb another decline. While the proposed Ares Capital acquisition proceeds, the next results will show whether MidCap can keep earning above $0.31 per share as repayments shrink the loan portfolio.
