STWD (Starwood Property Trust, Inc.) Reports a Wider Dividend Earnings Shortfall
View the STWD Dividend Stock Profile
Starwood Property Trust reported third-quarter distributable earnings of $0.31 per diluted share on November 6, 2026, down from $0.40 in the second quarter. The regular dividend was $0.48 per share in both quarters, so the gap widened from eight cents to 17 cents.
Starwood earns interest on real estate and infrastructure loans and collects income from other investments and servicing. When it settles a troubled commercial loan or sells a foreclosed property, the amount recovered can affect what is left for shareholders. Before realized commercial lending gains and losses, Starwood reported distributable earnings of $0.41 per diluted share. That gives us a way to see how much those resolutions weighed on the quarter, and even that higher figure fell seven cents short of the dividend.
In our view, the shortfall is more consequential because it persists even before those realized lending losses. Better recoveries would help, but we want to see the portfolio earn more after financing and operating costs before we see stronger support for the $0.48 payment.
