OBDC (Blue Owl Capital Corporation) Earnings Keep a Narrow Dividend Cushion
View the OBDC Dividend Stock Profile
Blue Owl Capital Corporation reported on November 4, 2026 that third-quarter adjusted net investment income was $0.33 per share, down from $0.34 in the second quarter. That still edged above the $0.32 in base and supplemental dividends attributed to the quarter, although the margin leaves little room for weaker earnings.
OBDC lends to private companies and earns interest on those loans, with financing costs, management fees and borrower performance shaping what remains for shareholders. Its adjusted earnings measure removes certain noncash effects associated with its earlier merger with Blue Owl Capital Corp. III, making it useful for following ongoing income across these two quarters.
The smaller earnings figure came as investment income slipped to $392 million from $401 million. The company attributed the decline mainly to lower nonrecurring other income after an elevated second quarter, partly offset by higher dividend income. Expenses also eased, but not enough to prevent the modest per-share decline.
There was better news in the underlying portfolio. Net asset value, the value of investments and other assets after liabilities, rose to $14.32 per share from $14.26. Higher portfolio valuations and share repurchases helped. Loans on non-accrual, where interest is no longer being recognized normally, remained at 0.8% of portfolio fair value, although their share measured at original cost edged up to 2.9% from 2.8%. Those measures describe different things and should be read together.
On November 3, the board maintained the fourth-quarter base dividend at $0.31 per share and declared a $0.01 supplement tied to third-quarter earnings, compared with a $0.02 supplement for the second quarter. The supplement is payable by December 15, 2026 to holders of record on November 30. The fourth-quarter base payment is payable by January 15, 2027 to holders of record on December 31, 2026.
Our view is that OBDC’s payment has current earnings support, but the cushion is thin. The smaller supplement helps keep the total aligned with income, while steady non-accrual fair value and a modest recovery in asset value are encouraging. A sustained improvement in adjusted income per share would make that support more convincing; portfolio growth alone will not do the job unless it produces more income after costs.
