Oil Retreat Extends, Diesel Remains Tight

Oil extended its decline before Tuesday’s U.S. open. Brent was near $98 a barrel, below Monday’s roughly $100 close, while the 10-year Treasury yield eased to about 4.93% from Monday’s official 4.96%. This is a further reduction in immediate cost and financing pressure, not proof that the energy shock has ended.

For the Fly High universe, cheaper fuel could help borrowers’ operating cash flow and lower long yields could ease refinancing pressure. Yet the Energy Information Administration expects U.S. distillate inventories to remain below their five-year range through year-end, a warning that diesel-intensive costs may stay elevated. These are possible effects on earning power, not a change in dividend capacity established by a market quote. Company-specific earnings remain the primary signal. Watch whether oil and yields stabilize and whether future reports show durable cash earnings.
