BXSL (Blackstone Secured Lending Fund) Earnings Fall Further Below Dividend

Blackstone Secured Lending Fund reported on November 4, 2026 that third-quarter net investment income fell to $0.68 per share, below its $0.77 regular quarterly dividend. The board nevertheless declared another $0.77 payment for the fourth quarter, payable on or about January 22, 2027, to shareholders of record on December 31, 2026.

The direction of earnings deserves attention. Net investment income declined from $0.75 per share in the previous quarter and $0.82 a year earlier. BXSL lends to private businesses, so the income left after borrowing and operating expenses is central to judging the payment’s support.

The company reported that investments where income recognition had stopped represented 2.1% of its portfolio at fair value. Its net asset value, the value remaining after liabilities, ended September at $25.25 per share. Management said repayments helped reduce borrowing during the quarter, a useful step even though reducing debt does not itself close the earnings shortfall.

Our view is that the unchanged dividend is running ahead of current earning power. We would want to see income per share recover before treating the payment as comfortably supported. Borrower performance and the income earned on new lending matter more to that judgment than the declaration alone.
