FINS (Angel Oak Financial Strategies Income Term Trust) Half-Year Income Trails Distributions

Angel Oak Financial Strategies Income Term Trust filed its latest half-year report on October 9, 2026. Its income still falls well short of the cash it pays shareholders.
For the six months ended July 31, the fund reported $0.36 per share of net investment income against $0.69 in distributions. Net investment income is what remains from investment income after the fund’s expenses, including financing costs. The difference was $0.33 per share.
In the same six months a year earlier, net investment income was $0.37 per share and distributions were $0.66. Income edged down while payments edged up. We would find the payout more reassuring if that gap were closing.
These are the fund’s GAAP, or standard accounting, figures. We generally prefer adjusted earnings when they help show ongoing earning power, but this report provides no adjusted alternative. Both periods here use the same reported net investment income measure.
Investment gains can help, but they are not steady income
The fund invests mainly in financial-sector debt. It can also use investment gains to support distributions, so a shortfall in net investment income alone does not mean a payment must be cut.
During this half year, however, realized and unrealized investment losses reduced the result from operations to $0.23 per share. After the $0.69 in distributions, net asset value fell from $13.92 to $13.46 per share. Net asset value is the value of the fund’s assets after its liabilities.
The fund still reported a positive investment return when reinvested distributions were included. That is welcome, but a positive total return does not mean ongoing income covered the payments.
Our view remains cautious. A high cash payment is useful, but it becomes more convincing when more of it comes from ongoing earnings. The next financial report should show whether income per share improves and whether investment gains help rebuild the value supporting future payments.
These results describe the period through July 31. They do not establish current earnings or predict the next distribution.
