BITO (ProShares Bitcoin ETF) Sets One-for-Two Reverse Split for November 19

ProShares announced on November 3, 2026 that the ProShares Bitcoin ETF will undergo a one-for-two reverse share split before trading opens on November 19, 2026. Every two existing BITO shares will become one share, with a proportionate increase in value per share at the split.
The practical point is simple: the split itself does not increase the value of an investment. In ProShares’ hypothetical example, 1,000 shares worth $10 each become 500 shares worth $20 each. Both positions total $10,000 before any market movement.
BITO’s ticker will remain unchanged, while its CUSIP, the identification code used for the security, will change to 74350X405. Investors holding an odd number of shares may receive cash for a fractional share. ProShares says those fractional interests will be redeemed through the broker, which could create a taxable gain or loss.
The higher share price after the split should also be kept separate from the fund’s ability to pay distributions. BITO invests in bitcoin futures and swaps rather than holding bitcoin directly, and ProShares says it distributes futures-related gains monthly when there are any. Combining shares creates no new gains and makes no promise about future payments.
Our view is that this is a change in the units shareholders own, with a real administrative consequence for fractional shares, rather than an improvement in earning power. When judging future cash payments, the useful question remains what the fund’s investments actually generate. A higher price per share created by a reverse split does not answer that question.
