IVR (Invesco Mortgage Capital Inc.) Reports Book Value Decline to $6.74

Invesco Mortgage Capital kept its monthly dividend at $0.12 on October 14, 2026, while reporting a weaker capital position at September 30. Estimated book value fell to $6.74 per common share from $7.74 a month earlier, a decline of about 12.9%. We think that deserves more attention than the unchanged payment.
Book value is the value left for shareholders after liabilities, with the preferred shareholders’ claim also deducted in this common-share figure. It is not recurring earnings. But a smaller capital base can limit the mortgage investments a company can hold without taking on more borrowing relative to its equity.
That pressure shows up in Invesco’s financing figures. Its company-reported economic debt-to-equity ratio rose from 7.5 times to 8.3 times. This measure includes financing associated with forward mortgage purchases as well as ordinary borrowing. It means more financing relative to the equity supporting the portfolio, even though repurchase-agreement borrowings edged down from $6.9 billion to $6.8 billion.
Available liquidity also declined. Unrestricted cash and investments not pledged as collateral totaled $401.3 million, compared with $534.7 million at August 31. That remains a meaningful reserve, but the reduction gives the company less flexibility if it needs cash for collateral or portfolio adjustments. The update does not establish a liquidity crisis.
For dividend support, the next question is what the mortgage portfolio earns after financing costs, operating expenses and payments due to preferred shareholders. This announcement gives preliminary balance-sheet information, not a new earnings figure that answers that question. We would not infer a dividend cut from book value alone, or assume that keeping the payment unchanged proves it is fully earned.
Our view has become more cautious. Stabilizing book value and reducing financing pressure would help, but stronger income per common share is the evidence we most want to see in the next quarterly results. Invesco says the month-end figures are preliminary and unaudited and may change during its closing work.
The October dividend is payable November 16 to shareholders of record October 26.
