OBDC: Supplemental Dividend Returns as NAV Slips
Blue Owl Capital Corporation reported second-quarter adjusted net investment income of ﹩0.34 per share, up from ﹩0.31 in the first quarter. The company declared a ﹩0.31 base dividend for the third quarter and a ﹩0.02 second-quarter supplemental dividend.
Total distributions of ﹩0.33 per share were covered by adjusted earnings with a one-cent margin. NAV declined to ﹩14.26 per share from ﹩14.41, with management attributing the change mainly to markdowns in a small number of investments. Share repurchases provided partial support.
Why it matters
The supplemental payment restores some income above the recently established base dividend, but the coverage cushion remains narrow. The results therefore combine stronger quarterly earnings with modest pressure on portfolio value.
Nonaccruals increased to 2.8% of the portfolio at cost from 2.0%, while declining to 0.8% at fair value from 1.0%. That divergence indicates additional troubled principal but lower carrying values on those positions. Net debt to equity eased to 1.11 times from 1.13 times.
What to watch
The main tests are whether adjusted earnings remain above total distributions, whether the concentrated markdowns stabilize, and whether repurchases below NAV continue to offset some per-share dilution from credit losses.
