Rate-Hike Odds Rise as Yields Firm
After the open, Treasury yields firmed and markets assigned roughly 65% odds to a September rate increase, up from about 55% before the payroll report. The 10-year yield traded near 4.77%, while the two-year touched its highest level since January 2025; oil eased from recent highs.
For the Fly High universe, this repricing reinforces a mixed mechanism. Floating-rate asset income may benefit, but borrowers face more interest expense, refinancing stays demanding, and mortgage REIT book values and funding remain rate-sensitive. Earnings remain the primary signal for dividend support; today’s market moves alone do not show that coverage changed.
Next week’s CPI is the key check on whether stronger hiring and elevated energy costs translate into a firmer policy path.
